There will be a Town Meeting held at 7:30 pm on April 19th at the Senior Community Center. The purpose of the meeting is to present the proposed 2016 - 2017 Annual Operating Budget. There will not be a vote taken on the budget at this meeting but after a presentation by the Boards of Finance, Selectmen and Education residents can ask questions and make comments. The Town Meeting will then be adjourned to a "machine ballot" referendum which the Board of Selectmen anticipates will be held on May 3rd. The hours for the referendum will be set at the Town Meeting at either noon to 8 pm or 6 am to 8 pm.
The total proposed budget is for $21,997,513 or an increase of 2.88% over the current year. The specific components are as follows: General Government - $4,613,000 or +1.5%; Education - $16,075,000 or +2.98%; Debt Service - $659,513 or (-2.33%) and the Capital Reserve Fund - $650,000 or +18.18%. Based on revenue projections that include grants in the current state budget adjusted for the Governor's rescissions to date, the Board of Finance projects that the proposed budget would increase the property tax rate by 0.7 mills or 2.3% to a mill rate of 31.1.
