East Granby Budget Referendum Results

Budget Passes with a 36.7% Voter Turnout

Here are the results of the second East Granby Budget Referendum that took place on May 19, 2015.

“Shall the Annual Budget for the Fiscal Year beginning July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016 in the amount of $4,546,000 for the General Government; $15,610,000 for the Board of Education; $675,263 for Debt Service; $550,000 for the Capital Reserve Fund totaling $21,381,263 be adopted as recommended by the Board of Finance?”

The motion was approved with 662 residents voting yes and 601 voting no and 4 blanks. There are 3449 registered voters and 1267 or 36.7% voted.

The results for the non-binding advisory questions were as follows: “Should the proposed Government Budget of $4,546,000, an increase of 2.48% be higher or lower?” There were 125 blank ballots, 408 said higher and 734 said lower. “Should the proposed Board of Education Budget of $15,610,000, an increase of 3.21% be higher or lower. There were 74 blank ballots, 539 said higher and 663 said lower.

The Board of Finance met immediately after the referendum and set the new tax rate at 30.4 mills or a 2% increase over the current rate. The new fiscal year starts July 1, 2015 and ends June 30, 2016. For more information, call the Office of the First Selectman at 860-653-2576.
