East Granby Budget Town Meeting & Referendum

Town Meeting on May 12th will adjourn to referendum vote on May 19th

On April 28, 2014 the annual town budget as proposed by the Boards of Finance, Selectmen and Education was defeated by a referendum vote of 517 yes and 538 no. The Board of Finance met on April 29th and reduced the annual budget proposal for the period of July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016. The anticipated tax increase for the initial budget request was 2.7% and the revised budget anticipates a tax increase of 2%. This new budget proposal requests $4,546,000 a reduction of $14,000 for General Government; $15,610,000 for the Board of Education a reduction of $50,000; $675,263 for Debt Service; $550,000 for the Capital Reserve Fund; totaling $21,381,263 a reduction of $64,000 over the original budget.

A Town Meeting will be held at the East Granby Senior Community Center on May 12th at 7:30 pm to review the revised budget. There will be a budget presentation by the boards but there will not be a vote on the budget at the Town Meeting which will adjourn to a machine ballot referendum called by the Board of Selectmen for May 19th at the East Granby Senior Community Center. The hours of the referendum will be set at the Town Meeting.
