East Granby Convenience Store Robbed at Knifepoint

A man and woman escaped in a truck, but were captured shortly thereafter in nearby Bloomfield, police said.

EAST GRANBY, CT — A man and woman accused of committing an armed robbery at an East Granby convenience store Wednesday afternoon were taken into custody shortly thereafter by Bloomfield police officers and a Connecticut State Police trooper.

Around 2:15 p.m., a clerk at the NH Deli and Grocery convenience store at 95 Spoonville Road reported being robbed by a man wielding a knife. Investigation revealed the suspect and an unknown woman left the scene in a dark-colored pickup truck, a state police report says.

A description of the vehicle and suspects was broadcast to police in surrounding towns, and the truck was stopped in Bloomfield and the pair arrested, according to the report.

Thomas Phillips, 50, of Windsor, was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal mischief and sixth-degree larceny. Alisha Phillips, 24, of East Windsor, was charged with criminal attempt to commit first-degree robbery and interfering with an officer.

Bond for each was set at $50,000, and arraignment is scheduled for Thursday in Enfield Superior Court.

State police spokesperson Kelly Grant said the relationship between the two is not yet known.
