East Granby Fire Chief Killed in Crash
A fatal crash occurred late Thursday night on Route 20 in Windsor.

WINDSOR, CT - The small town of East Granby is mourning the passing of one of its leading first responders who lost his life in a crash Thursday night.
Peter Ahlstrin, chief of the East Granby Volunteer Fire Department, was killed when he lost control of his pickup truck on Route 20, struck a guardrail and tumbled down an embankment, Fox61 reported.
Ahlstrin, 28, was ejected from the vehicle and pinned under it, the station said.

"The Chief was a valued member of our community who spent his entire adult life as a member of the East Granby Volunteer Fire Department and was elected Chief this past January," East Granby First Selectman Jim Hayden said in an email to Patch. "Our condolences go out to his mother, family and the members of the Fire Department. This is a sad moment for our community."
On its Facebook page, the department gave the traditional firefighter's sendoff, "Rest easy Chief, we'll take it from here."
