
Adolph W. Viets, Jr., 90, of East Granby, known to most as “Chic” passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017. He was the beloved husband of 67 years to the late Anita (Rachek) Viets.
Chic was born September 9, 1927 in East Granby, son of the late Adolph and Lucy Mazie Viets and remained a lifelong resident of East Granby. He was involved in many town affairs and a volunteer firefighter for many years. He saved lives in the 1955 flood, almost losing his own life.
Born and raised on a farm, he was a true outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and animals. He enjoyed and excelled at race car driving and was a member of the United Stock Car Racing Club. He was an avid bowler, Red Sox fan and musician, playing the violin at age 4 and attended the Hartt School of Music.

He enjoyed inventing and held a few patents. He loved working with his hands and built his own home. Before retiring in 1985, he was a nuclear technician for Combustion Engineering. He was a remarkable man.
He is survived by a son, Richard Viets and his wife, Nancy of Broad Brook; a daughter, Bette Jensen and her husband, Edward of East Granby; 5 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren; he also leaves a sister, Eleanor Taylor and her husband, Charles of Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Mary Schmaelzle and Catherine Malachowski both of MA; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters-in-law.

His family will receive friends Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 10-11 AM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, East Granby.
