East Granby Obituary: Anita Russo, 90

Condolences to her family and friends.

Anita (Clementino) Russo, 90, of East Granby and formerly of Bloomfield, beloved wife for 61 years of the late Anthony Sylvester Russo, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, in Granby.

Born in Hartford on November 19, 1926, daughter of the late Antonio and Alessandrina (Sforza) Clementino, she was raised in Hartford, was a graduate of Weaver High School, Class of 1945, and had lived in Bloomfield for 61 years before moving to East Granby to be closer to her family in 2013.

After her four children were in school, Anita returned to work as the receiving manager at Zayres in Bloomfield and later took a position at Beverly Labs in Bloomfield where she worked until her retirement. Anita was an active part of the community in Bloomfield where she spent most of her life. She volunteered at the Bloomfield Ambulance for 27 years, she was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, and during her retirement, she attended many events at the Bloomfield Senior Center.

She loved knitting and was a member of the knitting groups at Sacred Heart Church and at the Bloomfield Senior Center where she made prayer shawls, mittens for children in Afghanistan, and baby hats and blankets for premature babies at St. Francis Hospital.

She leaves a son, Thomas Anthony Russo of West Suffield; three daughters, Marie Russo Olden and her husband David of Bloomfield, Donna Russo and her husband Bruce Hosford of East Granby, and Gloria Russo Perrotta and her husband Pasquale of East Granby; a brother, James Clementino and his wife Connie of East Hartford; two sisters-in-law, Carmela Soderberg of Bloomfield and Minnie Eger of Miami, FL; 10 grandchildren, Alisha Mechachonis and her husband Alex of Granville, MA, Elizabeth Loney and her husband Eric of Windsor Locks, Tina Bonici and her husband Frank of Enfield, Amy Kiernan and her husband Craig of Berlin, James Griffin and his wife Jessica Duff of Winsted, Christine Griffin Bachmann and her husband Lucas of Prior Lake, MN, Michael Griffin of Windsor Locks, Gabby Truax of East Granby, and Genna and Lexie Perrotta both of East Granby; 12 great grandchildren, Austin, Ayla, Thomas, Alex, Anna, Benjamin, Chase, Emma, Violet, Aiden, Clara, and Paul Thomas; and many very special friends. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Valentino, Michael, and George Clementino; and two sisters, Macrina Ciarleglio and Maria Fazio.

Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 8, 10-11:45 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Wintonbury Ave., Bloomfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the calling hours at 12 Noon at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield.
