East Granby Obituary: Barbara Izabel, 82

Condolences to her family and friends.

Barbara L. Izabel, 82, of East Granby, passed away on November 15, 2016 with her family by her side.

Daughter of the late Anthony Lembo and Adelaide (Dakin) Lembo, Barbara was born in Hartford on May 22, 1934. She grew up in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School. After graduation, Barbara went to work at Hamilton Standard where she met her future husband Johnny. The young couple married and moved to East Granby where they lived for over 50 years.

When her children were young, Barbara enjoyed working in the Guidance Department of East Granby High School. This allowed her to have summers off, which she spent with her family at their beach cottage in Misquamicut, Rhode Island and camping up and down the Eastern Seaboard.

Barbara was a talented baker who made countless cakes for friends and neighbors, including beautiful wedding cakes. And she was famous for her Superbowl cream-filled chocolate cupcakes. Barbara also enjoyed her spur-of-the moment adventures to Mohegan Sun with her daughter-in-law, Paula and her many trips to the Cape with Pat and Alyce where the laughs were plentiful. Barbara and John were past parishioners of Sacred Heart Church in Suffield for over 25 years. At the time of her passing, she attended St. Joseph Church in Poquonock.

After over 50 years together, Johnny passed away in May of 2011. Barbara was later blessed to meet Milt, a widower who also mourned a wife of over 50 years. Together, they once again found loving companionship. The two married on June 27, 2015 and together shared many special memories between life in East Granby and in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where Barbara just loved being so near to the ocean. It was where she was most at peace. Barbara's children wish to thank Milt and his children for their love and support throughout her illness.
