East Granby Obituary: Brendan Doherty, 65

Condolences to his family and friends.

Brendan J. Doherty, 65, of East Granby, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at St. Francis Hospice.

Born in Bronx, NY to the late John and Rosemary (Ohlweiler) Doherty, he has been a resident of East Granby for over 57 years. Brendan was a member of St. Bernard Church in Tariffville, Elks Lodge in Hartford, Enfield American Legion, Disabled American Veterans #90, Irish-American Home in Glastonbury and Southwick VFW Post 872 where he previously served as a Quartermaster.

In his spare time he loved golfing and playing cards. Brendan will be remembered for his devotion toward family and friends, his pride in his Irish heritage, his insistence for steaks cooked “mooing” and his love of the NY Yankees and Giants.

Brendan is survived by his siblings, Marybeth Bonadies of Rocky Hill, Rosemary (Doherty) & John Golon of Ellington, John James “JJ” Doherty of Carlsbad, NM, Noel and Leanne Doherty of Enfield, Kathleen Doherty of Vernon and Christine Doherty and her husband Jerry Benware of Ellington; his nieces and nephews, Joseph Rizzuto, Nicholas & Robert Bonadies, Chelsea & Jillian Golon, Tracy Elston, Kaitlin Brophy, Jessica, Patrick & Michael Doherty, Steven Doherty, Ashley Susko and Tyler Wilcox; and nine grandnephews/nieces.

His family will receive friends on Friday, September 22 from 6-8 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave, Windsor, with private burial services.
