East Granby Obituary: Charles Kingsbury, 78

Condolences to his family and friends.

Charles R. Kingsbury (Red), 78, of East Granby, beloved husband of Grace Ann (Hunter) Kingsbury, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 4, 2017.

Born in Hartford on February 7, 1939 to the late Lewis and Elizabeth (Southergill) Kingsbury, he had been an East Granby resident for over 57 years. Charles graduated from Windsor High School in 1957 and retired in 2005 from HRH of Connecticut after many years in the insurance business.

He was a member and past Treasurer of the East Granby Congregational Church, as well as a member of the East Granby Historical Society, the East Granby Friendship Club and the East Granby Senior Club. In his spare time he enjoyed Red Sox baseball games, UConn basketball, reading, his computer, going out to eat and traveling with his wife and best friend Gracie, and spending time with his beloved dog Molly.

Charles was a caring and compassionate person who loved his family deeply and brightened the lives of many with his sense of humor. He was very concerned about animal welfare, especially that of dogs.

Besides his wife Grace Ann of East Granby, he is survived by his daughters, Gracelyn Kingsbury (partner Joan Baloga) and Janice L. Kingsbury (partner Robert Ruick) both of Windsor; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Alice and Audley Williams, Jr. of Columbia; nieces Barbara Fabbiani (William) of Berlin, Catherine Perez of Alvin, Texas, Valerie Timmins (George) of Willimantic; nephews Stephen O'Donnell (Vasti) of Bloomfield, Michael O'Donnell (Susan) of Stafford Springs and Allen J. O'Donnell of Pine Bush, NY, Audley Williams III (Angel) of Chesterfield, MA, Douglas Williams (Judy) of Andover and many grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as other family and friends, especially his lifelong friend Alan Smith of Windsor. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Judith L. Kingsbury and Mary Jane O'Donnell, niece Deborah O'Donnell and nephew David O'Donnell.

His family will receive friends on Sunday, June 11 from 3 PM to 6 PM at the Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, June 12, at the East Granby Congregational Church, 9 Rainbow Rd., East Granby, followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery, East Granby.
