East Granby Obituary: Diquel Mendes, 75

Diquel Luis Mendes, 75, of East Granby, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 21, 2015 in East Granby after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born August 20, 1940 in Hartford to the late Jose Luis and Idalina (Noiva) Mendes. Diquel was a graduate of what is now Southern Connecticut State University and had been an art teacher in the West Hartford Public School System for 35 years before his retirement in 1997. He loved tennis, sailing, the ocean and traveling the world, including Europe and Asia.

He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Maslowski of East Granby; Lora Leasure and her husband Barry of Matthews, NC; his brother, Anthony Mendes and his wife Susan, his son-in-law, Ronald Hoehne, as well as seven grandchildren, Lauren Soelch and her husband Michael, Alexa Hoehne, Mark Leasure, Leah Hoehne, Jared Maslowski, Megan Leasure and Michael Leasure. In addition to his parents Diquel was predeceased by his daughter, Lynn Hoehne.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 21, 11 am, at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor.
