East Granby Obituary: Marie Sullo, 90

Condolences to her family and friends.

Marie P. Sullo, 90, of East Granby, passed away November 2, 2017.

She was born in Hartford on August 27, 1927, daughter of the late Edward J. Pinney and Clementine (Fahey) Pinney. Growing up on her family farm in Suffield, Marie worked in the tobacco fields while going to school and also helped her mother preparing meals at home. As a young girl, Marie had a paper route and delivered Hartford Courant newspapers on her bike throughout the community of Tariffville.

The daughter of a teacher, Marie was very bright and with her mother's encouragement learned to read by the age of three. She attended grammar school in Suffield at South Street School and later in Tariffville before graduating from Simsbury High School in April of 1945.

After high school, Marie continued her education at St. Joseph College in West Hartford where she graduated with Bachelors Degree in Biology in 1948. Marie loved science and after graduation went to work in a laboratory as a laboratory technician. She later transitioned to the evolving nuclear medical field where she worked with sensitive machines and new technologies at St. Francis Hospital until her retirement after over 30 years of service.

She met her husband, the late Francis J. Sullo, while working at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford. The couple married in October of 1957 and settled in East Granby in a home custom built for his new bride. Francis and Marie were blessed with a daughter and enjoyed 57 happy years together.

A kind and generous lady, Marie was quiet, thoughtful, and cautious throughout her life and maintained close relationships with a special few. She adored chatting with her sister-in-law, reading, working on crossword puzzles, and keeping up with local events and taking care of her home.

Education was most important to her, and she loved reading to her daughter while she was growing up. Marie was very protective and loving towards her daughter and grandchildren always placing their needs above her own. Working full time each day was tiring but it never stopped Marie from making a hot meal for her family or hosting special holiday meals. Her commitment to family and time honored traditions will be forever cherished in the hearts of her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 14, 10 a.m., at St. Bernard Church, 7 Maple Ave., Tariffville. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery, Tariffville. There are no calling hours.
