East Granby Obituary: Sharon Oliva, 72

Condolences to her family and friends.

Sharon (Lindgren) Oliva, 72, of East Granby, beloved wife for 51 years of Paul J. Oliva, passed away suddenly on Friday, October 13, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in New Britain on November 6, 1944, daughter of the late Kenneth and Louise (Prey) Lindgren, she was raised in Plainville and was a graduate of Plainville High School. Sharon worked for many years in the legal department at the Cigna Insurance Company until her retirement in 2007.

Sharon’s husband Paul served as an EMT with the East Granby Ambulance Association and later as a board member with the Granby Ambulance Association. Sharon supported him through his many roles and responsibilities over the years and served several terms as the Corresponding Secretary for the East Granby Ambulance Association.

An animal lover since she was a child, Sharon had German Shepherds for many years and for the last 30 years, she and her husband had three Golden Retrievers. In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping, going out to dinner with her friends, and spending time at home with her husband.

Besides her husband Paul, she leaves an uncle, Raymond Prey of Kensington; two aunts, Isabelle and Margie Prey both of Kensington; a brother-in-law, John Oliva and his wife Lil of Worcester, MA; a sister-in-law, Alice McConville and her husband Joe of Leicester, MA; her close friends, Jim and Camile Meeker and JT and Alex Youmans all of East Granby; and many nieces and nephews in Massachusetts, Oklahoma, and Arizona.

Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 18, 10-11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Burial will follow in Granby Cemetery.

Sharon’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Granby Ambulance Association, 1 Pegville Rd., Granby, CT 06035.
