East Granby Obituary: Veronica Rachel

Condolences to her family and friends.

Veronica (Gregel) Rachel, of Windsor Locks, formerly of East Granby and Windsor died peacefully on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Parkway Pavilion, surrounded by her family.

Veronica grew up in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School. She was married to Edward J. Rachel on February 11, 1956 and together they lived in Windsor Locks until Edward's passing in 1993. Veronica worked as a purchasing agent for the State of Connecticut for more than 17 years. She was a talented musician and served as the organist and vocalist at St. Gabriel Church in Windsor, St. Francis of Assisi Church in South Windsor, and most recently at St. Mary's Church in Windsor Locks for over 20 years.

Veronica loved to travel and had the opportunity to travel to many places around the world. She had a love for animals and a special place in her heart for her dogs.

Her family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Parkway Pavilion and Masonicare Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.

She leaves her sisters, Shirley Stokes and her husband John of Windsor Locks and Nancy Emonds and her husband James of Enfield; her aunt, Ann Pola of South Windsor and 19 nieces and nephews whom she treated like her own children. She also leaves two longtime dear friends, Esther Cronin of East Granby and Sandy Coelho of Windsor Locks.

Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. North (Rt. 159) Suffield. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2016, 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Windsor Locks.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
