East Granby Schools Closed Due To Drug Probe: Reports

The East Granby School System has closed all town schools Friday so police could investigate how a student left school Thursday with drugs.

EAST GRANBY, CT — Local pupils in the East Granby school system got an early start to their Memorial Day weekend as police investigate how a student Thursday went home with narcotics.

According to broadcast media reports, East Granby schools were closed Friday so the East Granby Police Department and Connecticut State Police can investigate.

Fox 61, citing a letter from East Granby Superintendent of Schools Melissa F. Bavaro-Grande, reported a student was found with a folded piece of paper with a powdery substance inside that tested positive for crack cocaine and fentanyl.

WTNH Channel 8 and WFSB Channel 3 are also reporting that schools are closed today in East Granby.

As a result, according to Fox 61, schools were closed so that police narcotics dogs and law enforcement investigators can comb through schools and buses searching for any other narcotics.

WVIT Channel 30 reports the drugs were found on a school bus by a child.
