Granby Academic Recruiter Under Scrutiny
Timothy Martin and the American International Student Centers are featured in Bloomberg News report.

A Granby-based company that recruits Chinese students to attend the University of Connecticut and other schools is a focus of a recent Bloomberg News story describing controversial practices in that field.
In 2010, Timothy Martin of Granby started the American International Student Centers, a private recruiting firm that UConn officials said has misrepresented itself as affiliated with the university, according to Bloomberg News.
Two of Martin's Chinese recruits signed up thinking they would be attending classes on the main University of Connecticut campus at Storrs but ended up at the Torrington branch, Bloomberg reported. The recruits live in an inn near campus, paying significantly more than students pay for housing at Storrs, the story said.
