A pair of Scouts from the Granbys were among 86 recipients of the prestigious award in Connecticut.

GRANBY-EAST GRANBY, CT - Two Girl Scouts from the Granbys recently took home gold for their community-focused projects that helped them earn their Gold Awards.
- Holly Corcoran, East Granby
Holly’s Gold Award Project, “Kids Health and Wellness Fair,” focused on educating her town and surrounding communities on the benefits of eating healthier and taking part in regular exercise. Holly organized and executed a Health and Wellness Fair in her community where organizations across the state including the American Health Association, Bristol Hospital, and Connecticut Poison Control gathered and hosted tables with hands-on activities and pamphlets for those who attended the fair. Holly’s town was so impressed they want to continue to host a Health and Wellness Fair each year. Holly plans to pursue a career in public health with food service. - Emily Olchowski, Granby
Emily spearheaded a health fair where attendees also learned the valuable skills of hands-only CPR. The health fair educated attendees on heart health and safety information, such as exercise, healthy eating, and stress management. Emily also created informational posters and a booklet which will stay at the health department in her high school with step-by-step directions for those who wish to recreate her event. She also donated her posters to her public library and her local middle school to better inform the public the importance of health safety, healthy living, and how to perform CPR. Emily plans to pursue a career in environmental engineering.
