Granby, East Granby High School Students Earn Scholar-Athlete Awards

A pair of Bears and two Crusaders were among nearly 350 student-athletes from high schools around the state honored by the CAS-CIAC.

SOUTHINGTON, CT - Two student-athletes each from Granby Memorial and East Granby high schools were among 348 seniors who were honored as CIAC Scholar Athletes at the 33rd annual CAS-CIAC Scholar Athlete Banquet at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington Sunday night.

The event is the largest of the many honors programs CAS-CIAC hosts each year, according to a statement from the organization.

The Scholar Athlete program recognizes two high school senior student-athletes – one boy and one girl – from each member high school whose academic and athletic careers have been exemplary, whose personal standards and achievement are a model to others, and who possess high levels of integrity, self-discipline and courage. The honorees are chosen by the member schools and are submitted to the CIAC.

Honorees from Granby Memorial High School were Victoria Myers and Andrew Jennings, while Lauren Stout and Connor Rosenberger were honored from East Granby High School. Darien student Grace Wohlberg was also recognized with the Michael H. Savage Spirit of Sport Award.

More than 1,700 students, family members, school administrators and coaches were on hand to salute the Scholar Athletes and recognize their achievements. Dr. Bonnie Edmondson, Program Manager for School Health and assistant track & field coach at Trinity College and who will be traveling to Brazil this summer as throwing coach for the United States Olympic Track & Field Team, provided the keynote address. ESPN anchor Bob Picozzi served as the host for the evening.
