Granby Field Hockey, Boys Soccer Teams Move On in State Tournament Play

GRANBY, CT — Seeking its 14th state championship, but first since 2011, the Granby Memorial High School field hockey team took another step by downing North Branford 5-1 Thursday.

The Bears, seeded fourth in Class S, advance to the semifinals, where they will tangle with top-seeded Westbrook. That game will be scheduled at a site, date and time to be announced.

Granby's boys soccer team also progressed in the Class M tournament, defeating Stonington 3-1. The Bears, in search of their first state title since 2005 and 12th overall, will host No. 27 Sheehan in the quarterfinals Saturday at 2 p.m.
