Granby Girls 4th, Boys 5th in NCCC Cross Country Meet

Eight Granby Memorial runners and two from East Granby placed in the top 30 individuals in the varsity races at the league championships.

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — A Somers girl blew away the competition and a Canton boy also prevailed by a healthy margin in the North Central Connecticut Conference cross country championships Saturday at Windsor Locks High School.

Somers sophomore Kylie Raymond led the girls' field from the opening gun, running by herself for most of the 3.1 mile course. She finished in 18:59.88, well over a minute ahead of runnerup Jane Frawley of Canton.

On the boys' side, Maximillian Sparks of Canton crossed the finish line in 16:09.06, more than 14 seconds ahead of Suffield's Kyle Englander.

In team competition, the Canton girls tallied 46 points to easily outdistance Ellington, while the Suffield boys recorded 43 points to prevail over runnerup Ellington.
