The event is run by the members of the field hockey team from the Junior Class. The girls did an absolute excellent job this year while raising money for a great cause. They have been doing this for a few years and it is becoming more and more successful each year. This year the girls sold bracelets, cupcakes, shoelaces and draw string bags. 100 percent of the proceeds go to breast cancer awareness. Junior Sam Bates says doing things like this is awesome, “We become as closer as team on and off the field and are raising awareness for a great cause.”

Also new this year the lines on the field hockey field were painted pink to raise awareness during the month of October. The lines were painted on the pink on the freshman boy’s soccer field and the freshman girls field hockey field. The girls raise about $1000 every year, it is really quite incredible how the field hockey community has rallied around this cause and over the years, they have turned this into a huge success.

The Field hockey team won their “Play for the Cure Game” 4-0 against the Wildcats from Suffield on Tuesday night (10/14). Head coach Sandy Mason was pleased with the outcome as the Bears applied pressure all night long and did not allow Suffield to get going offensively all game. Senior Captain Krista Iwanicki played outstanding for the Bears and scored a beautiful goal late in the second half to clinch the victory for the Bears.

The field hockey team has done a great job over the years connecting to the Granby community and giving the town something to be proud about with their 13 state championships. The Bears do a great job raising awareness for such a horrible disease like breast cancer, they did a great job raising money this year and they hope that one day their hard work will have helped to put an end to breast cancer.
