Granby Maintains Top 10 Spot in Field Hockey Poll

The Bears won their first 10 outings by a combined score of 43-2.

Darien High School kept its position atop the weekly Connecticut field hockey coaches poll, but a new challenger zipped into second place, picking up a pair of first-place votes along the way.

The Blue Wave (10-1-1) are now being pursued by Enfield (9-0), which has posted eight shutouts en route to a scoring differential of 47-1 over its opponents thus far this season. Enfield moved up two spots in the most recent balloting.

Granby Memorial (10-0) kept its number seven ranking in this week's poll, outscoring opponents by a remarkable 43-2.

Here are the top 10, plus all other schools receiving votes, with records through Oct. 11:

  2. Enfield (9-0)
  3. Daniel Hand (9-0-2)
  4. Greenwich (10-1)
  5. Norwalk (10-1)
  6. Glastonbury (9-1)
  7. Granby Memorial (10-0)
  8. Cheshire (8-0-1-2)
  9. Branford (8-1-0-1)
  10. North Branford (10-0-0-1)

Also receiving votes: Pomperaug (9-1-2), South Windsor (8-1-1), Staples (8-1-0-1), Immaculate (8-1-1-1).
