Granby Obituary: Carolyn (Sloan) Leach

Volunteer at the Salmon Brook Historical Society and the Granby Drummer.

Carolyn (Sloan) Leach, 92, of Granby, beloved wife for 64 years of Lendol “Tim” B. Leach, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2015, at her home.

Born in Jeannette, PA on March 6, 1923, daughter of the late Carl and Hazel (Cassell) Sloan, she was raised in Jeannette, PA and was a graduate of Jeannette High School, Class of 1941.

She married Lendol Leach in 1943 and the young couple moved to Texarkana, TX to the Army base where Lendol was stationed. After World War II, they moved to Kansas City, MO where their two children were born. The insurance business brought Carolyn and her family to Connecticut in 1959 and they settled in West Hartford where they lived for over 20 years. In 1983, Carolyn and her husband moved to Granby. She joined South Congregational Church where she enjoyed ushering and helping prepare for after funeral receptions. In her spare time, Carolyn also volunteered at the Salmon Brook Historical Society and at the Granby Drummer as a proofreader.

She leaves a daughter, Hazel Elizabeth “Beth” Leach of Granby; two nephews, Rev. Charles W. Mills and his wife Charyn of DeWitt, IA and Carl S. Mills and his wife Suzanne of Indianapolis, IN; three great nephews, John Mills and his wife Julie of Indianapolis, IN, Andrew Mills of Washington, D.C., and Tim Mills of Oslo, Norway; two great nieces, Kathy Dahlman and her husband Eric of Savannah, IL and Sarah Jen and her husband John of Indianapolis, IN; two great-great nephews, Nicholas and Harrison Jen; and a great-great niece, Emily Dahlman. Besides her husband she was predeceased by a son, Lendol “Tim” Sloan Leach; and a sister, Norma Mills.

Her family will receive friends on Saturday, September 5, 5-7 p.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 6, 12 Noon, at South Congregational Church, 242 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Burial will be private.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Companions and Homemakers for their expert care and compassion over the last several months.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to South Congregational Church, 242 Salmon Brook St., Granby, CT 06035.
