Granby Obituary: Eileen Stanton, 98

Condolences to her family and friends.

Eileen Stanton, 98, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2016.

The oldest of three sisters, Eileen was born on April 4, 1918 to the late Adolph and Ora (Miller) Girouard. Eileen grew up and attended school in West Warren, MA. She later moved to Ware and then Springfield, MA where she lived with her husband Edmund and raised her two daughters.

Eileen loved nature and her home and backyard garden always seemed to be in bloom. She loved animals, spent many happy hours feeding the birds and volunteered her time at Friends of Animals, an area rescue organization. But more than anything, Eileen loved her family and took pride in every little thing she did for us. Her grandchildren
have wonderful memories of coming home from school to the smell of home-baked cookies and freshly laundered school clothes. And we all remember how she’d sneak off after holiday dinners to pull on her rubber gloves and get busy with the dishes before anyone else could lay claim to “her work.” Even as her strength declined, washing up
after meals was the one task she refused to relinquish.

She loved spending summers on Cape Cod, playing Bingo, and shopping. At the mere mention of the word ‘shopping,’ she had her purse and was ready to go. She was an avid walker and was always on the move. She faced many challenges in life with resilience and grace and had a smile on her face for everyone she met. She believed in always moving forward and never worrying about things she couldn’t control. She was always there to help and offer support to others.

Eileen is survived by her two daughters, Maureen and her husband Charles Silver of Suffield, and Gail Stanton and her husband James Paisley of Chester, her grandchildren, Stephanie Silver, Christopher Silver and his wife Lynn,
Adam Silver and his wife Meridith, Nathan Hammond and Olivia Hammond and her great-grandchildren Robert Jr., Rachel, Reese and Peyton. Eileen was predeceased by her grandson, Robert Silver, and her sisters, Pearl Clough and Hazel Janes.
