
John Paul Avery, 80, of Granby, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at his home.
Born in Westfield, MA to the late W. Kenneth and Hazel (Helm) Avery he was a lifelong resident of Granby. John graduated Simsbury High School in 1954 and attended Nichols College. He ran the family store, Avery’s General Store in Granby from 1970-1986 and was a past member of the Lost Acres Volunteer Fire Dept and the Granby Republican Town Committee. John was very proud to serve on the campaign to elect Ronald Reagan as President in 1980 and was an avid Red Sox fan, especially his favorite player Ted Williams.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. John is survived by his twin sister Johanne Scott and her husband William of Granby; his brother W. Kenneth Avery, Jr of Canton; his cousin Peter and Joan Avery of Granby; his brother-in-law Thomas H. Smith of Virginia, and many loving nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his dear sister Janet Avery Smith and dear brother W. Preston Avery.

A funeral service officiated by Pastor James Montoro will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, February 23 at the Hayes Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St Granby followed by burial in Granby Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Monday, February 22 from 5 PM to 7 PM at the funeral home.
