Granby Obituary: John Murphy, 73

Condolences to his family and friends.

John S. Murphy, 73, of Granby formerly of Windsor Locks, beloved husband of 51 years to Patty (Tucker) Murphy passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital.

He was born on December 27, 1942 in Hartford, son of the late John J. and Amelia (Claus) Murphy. John lived in Windsor Locks for 54 years and moved to Cape Cod after retiring then moved to Granby where he spent the last ten years.

He retired in 1992, after 27 years at the rank of Captain from the Windsor Locks Police Department. John was the first detective for the department.

He was a communicant of St. Mary Church and attended Pilgrim Covenant Church in Granby with his family. He enjoyed reading, fishing with his grandchildren, and spending time with his grandchildren. In his younger years he enjoyed playing softball.

In addition to his wife Patty, he is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Pavlik and her husband John of Granby; three grandchildren, Jake, Kennedy, and Kyle Pavlik; two sisters, Nancy Weber and her husband John of Florida, Shirley McInvale and her husband Houston of Middlefield, a brother, James Murphy of Windsor Locks, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pilgrim Covenant Church, 605 Salmon Brook Street, Granby, CT. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations in John’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or American Cancer Society, 825 Brook Street I-91 Tech Center Rocky Hill, CT 06076-3045.
