Granby Obituary: Ralph Hammond, Jr., 89

Condolences to his family and friends.

Ralph Nathan Hammond, Jr., 89, of Granby, beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Jackman) Hammond, passed away, Saturday, February 6, 2016.

Born in Peterborough, NH, son of the late Ralph and Katherine (Barker) Hammond, Sr., he lived in Granby since 1964. Ralph served in the US Army as a B-29 Bomber mechanic in Okinawa, during W.W. II and had been employed by Kaman Aerospace for 45 years before retiring. Ralph graduated from the New England Aircraft School at Boston University. He earned his civil aircraft pilot license and served in the Civil Air Patrol in New Hampshire. He was a long time member and past deacon at First Congregational Church, Granby. Ralph had many, varied interests including fly fishing, wood working, bird watching, and building and flying model airplanes.

He leaves his three daughters: Deborah S. Hammond of East Granby, Kathleen J. Hammond of Torrington, and Ruth B. White of Gypsum, CO; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat “Pumpkin”. Besides his wife, Dorothy, he was predeceased by a son Ralph A. Hammond, son-in-law James L. White, a sister Alberta Mahon, and his best friend Frank Amarosa.

His family would like to thank the staff at McLean for their skilled care and loving kindness.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, Feb. 12, 2016 at 3 pm at First Congregational Church, 219 North Granby Road, Granby. An additional memorial service will be held in the Spring at Cathedral of the Pines, Ringe, NH with burial to follow in Williamsville Cemetery, Williamsville, VT.
