Granby Obituary: Rev. William Whitsitt, 71

Condolences to his family and friends.

Reverend William A. Whitsitt, 71, of Bloomfield, beloved husband to Rita K. (Black) Whitsitt, Senior Pastor of New Mercies Apostolic Church, Bloomfield, passed away Monday, November 9, 2015.

Born in Natchez, MS, son of the late Charles and Dorothea (Dickerson) Whitsitt, he was raised in DeRidder, LA. He graduated from DeRidder High School, Class of 1961 and attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. William served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He then attended Apostolic Bible Institute, St. Paul, MN in pursuit of Pastoral Ministry.

He served as Senior Pastor for 30 years at Granby Pentecostal Tabernacle, (Life Church), including serving for 8 years as District Superintendent, State of Connecticut, United Pentecostal Church, Int’l. From 2006 to the present, he served as Senior Pastor of New Mercies Apostolic Church, Bloomfield. His servant ministry as a pastor, mentor, and counselor for over 45 years impacted countless lives. He lived his life caring for people, without judgement, and with an attitude of love and compassion. He was a passionate sports fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and the UConn Huskies.

Besides his beloved wife Rita, he leaves three sons Bryant A. Whitsitt (Jennifer) of Charlotte, NC; Mark W. Whitsitt (Kate) of Hebron, and Jeremy R. Whitsitt (Libbie) of Auburn, MA; a daughter Kayla D. Hinson (Brad) of Indian Land, SC; two brothers Dick Whitsitt (Sandra) of Norman, OK and Mike Whitsitt of Noble, OK; 10 grandchildren Allen, Julianne, Ryan, Aidan, Emma, Jenna, Mya, Landon, Cole, and Danielle; several nieces and nephews; and a church family who loved him very much. He was predeceased by a sister Jan Yerkey.

His family will receive friends Friday, November 13, 2015, from 5-8 pm at the LODGE, A Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Road, Windsor, CT. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 14, 2015, 10 am at the LODGE. The Rev. Dr. Robert Costa will officiate. Burial will follow with military honors in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield.
