Granby Obituary: William Vincent, 77

Condolences to his family and friends.

William F. Vincent, 77, of Granby, beloved husband of Frances (Holman) Vincent, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 2017.

Born in Pittsfield, MA to the late Merton and Virginia (Perry) Vincent, he has been a Granby resident for 46 years. He was a graduate of Pittsfield High School, and then went on to the University of Massachusetts and then the University of Connecticut where he received his Ph.D. in Microbiology.

Bill worked for many years as Director of Long Term Healthcare Services at Quest Diagnostics, and before that worked for the State Department of Health Laboratories for both Connecticut and New York. Bill served his country proudly with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and later in life continued his tradition of serving as part of the Coast Guard Auxiliary where he was most recently Division Commander.

He and Fran have been long time members of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Tariffville. In his spare time Bill was an avid fly fisherman, who shared his love of fishing by teaching his grandchildren and many friends to fish (and how to tell fish stories).

Besides his wife Frances of Granby, he is survived by his sons, Matthew Vincent and his wife Denise of Amesbury, MA and Andrew Vincent of San Diego, CA; his daughter Jennifer Cook and her husband Timothy of Miami Springs, FL; his grandchildren, Chelsey, Timothy, Chandler, Andrew, Jack and Piper; and sisters-in-law and brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Michael Vincent.

His family wishes to thank the nursing staff and doctors of the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain for their compassionate care of Bill and kindness to his family in his final days.

A memorial service will be held at 10 AM Monday, August 28 at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Church St. Tariffville. His family will receive friends on Sunday, August 27 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St. Granby.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to the Kateri Medical Clinic (c/o Trinity Episcopal Church, www.katericlinic.org/donate.html) or the Coast Guard Auxiliary Band Division 9 (check to Flotilla 97 Band, mailed to Marcia Green, 19 Tampa St. South Hadley MA 01075).
