Granby Schools Honor Teacher, Staff Member Of The Year

GRANBY, CT — Granby Public Schools has recognized two employees for their work with students and families across the district.

Jessica Foskitt, the district’s orchestra director and a strings teacher, was named Granby’s 2026-27 Teacher of the Year. Family Engagement Specialist Bethany Grupp was selected as the district’s Staff Person of the Year.

Foskitt is entering her sixth year in Granby. She teaches students at Kelly Lane Primary School, Wells Road Intermediate School and Granby Memorial Middle School and has helped expand the district’s strings program.

The program reached Granby Memorial High School for the first time during the past school year, giving students an opportunity to continue playing after middle school.

Foskitt has also worked to make orchestra accessible to students who may not have access to private lessons. Colleagues credited her with building students’ confidence while maintaining high expectations in the classroom.

Before joining Granby Public Schools, Foskitt worked as a college professor and Suzuki method instructor. Her selection was announced during the district’s second annual Strings in the Park event, and she was formally recognized during the district’s August convocation.

The Board of Education also recognized Foskitt during its Sept. 16 meeting.

Grupp was honored for her work with students and families participating in the Open Choice program. In her role as family engagement specialist, she helps families navigate the school system, connects them with resources and works to ensure students feel welcome in Granby schools.

District officials said Grupp’s ability to build relationships has made her a trusted point of contact for families. Her work often extends beyond the school day as she helps address questions and keeps families connected with teachers and administrators.

Grupp is based at Wells Road Intermediate School. She was recognized alongside Board of Education Chair Heather Lombardo and Superintendent Cheri Burke.
