Connecticut State University American Association of University Professors endorses Melissa Osborne for 8th Senate District

Melissa Osborne, candidate for Senate in Connecticut’s 8th District, has received the endorsement of the Connecticut State University American Association of University Professors (CSU-AAUP). Membership in the chapter is composed of faculty from Central, Eastern, Southern and Western Connecticut State Universities.

Mary Ann Mahony, chair of the CSU-AAUP Political Committee, stated that the endorsement came in consideration of Osborne’s recognition of the needs of public higher education in Connecticut.

“As a product of public university education, I am especially proud to receive the endorsement of the Association of University Professors. I promise to work tirelessly to promote affordable, quality higher learning institutions, and to ensure that the voices of the faculty who have dedicated their careers to public service are heard in crafting the education their students need. Their efforts are vital to young people of the 8th District.

“Public university education allowed me to attend school and work full time to earn my degrees. We need to ensure that college and vocational opportunities are accessible to Connecticut residents, so the next generation of learners can follow in the success that came for me with an affordable education,” says Osborne.

The Eighth Senate District of Connecticut elects one member of the Connecticut Senate. Its current senator is Republican Kevin Witkos, who was first elected in 2008. The district contains the towns of Norfolk, Hartford, Hartland, Canton, Simsbury, New Hartford, Avon, Barkhamsted, Colebrook and parts of Granby, Harwinton and Torrington.
