Heartbreaking Finales for Granby Boys Soccer, Girls Volleyball

WINDSOR/PLAINVILLE, CT — The old Yogi Berra saying "it ain't over 'til it's over" certainly applied to Tuesday night's Class M boys soccer semifinal matchup at Windsor High School.

Ellington High School jumped to a 3-0 lead, but NCCC rival Granby Memorial, the No. 3 seed, stormed back to tie the game and force a pair of overtime periods.

Early in the first extra session, the Knights converted on a long boot and held on to secure a 4-3 victory and earn a spot in Saturday's championship tilt.

Adam Holden had a pair of goals and Grant Dorman netted the other for the Bears.

Ellington, seeded 18th, will take on No. 5 Brookfield in the finals, at a location and time to be announced.

Meanwhile, at Plainville High School, seventh-seeded Granby captured the opening set but was unable to withstand a tough Seymour team, dropping a 3-1 decision in the Class M girls volleyball semifinals.

Game scores were 22-25, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-17.

Third-seeded Seymour will face No. 1 Torrington in the finals Saturday at East Haven High School.
