Knife-Wielding Man Robs East Granby Bank

The suspect jumped over the counter and took an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police are investigating an armed robbery at an East Granby bank Wednesday afternoon.

Around 3:50 p.m., troopers from State Police Troop H in Hartford and the East Granby Resident State Trooper’s Office responded to a reported bank robbery at The First National Bank of Suffield, on Turkey Hills Road, public information officer Trooper Kelly Grant said.

Upon arrival, troopers determined that a lone suspect, a light-skinned male, possibly Caucasian, entered the bank through the main entrance. The suspect was armed with a knife, and wearing dark clothing, to include attire covering most of his facial region, and gloves, Grant said.

The male suspect jumped over the teller counter and entered the cash drawers, then exited the bank with an undetermined amount of cash. He was last seen leaving the area, traveling east on Route 20 in a small black SUV, possibly a Chevrolet, Grant said.

State Police detectives from Central District Major Crime (CDMC) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
