On Tuesday, April 10, 2018 women across the United States will join in a national day of action against unfair pay called Equal Pay Day. April is the point into the new year that a woman must work to earn the wages paid to a man in the previous year. On a national level, women are paid only 80 cents for every dollar a man is paid, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

In 2016, median annual earnings in the U.S. for men working full time, year-round were $51,640, compared to $41,554 for women. The gap narrowed over the past half-century, but progress has stalled in recent years. The Equal Pay Act has not been updated since 1963.

Immediate legislative and executive actions are needed to enable women to bring home the pay they have rightfully earned. (The Fight for Pay Equity: A Federal Road Map Updated September 2017)

The fight for pay equity - Pass federal bills advancing pay equity.

Congress needs to pass legislation that will enable all women to take home a fair paycheck.

The Paycheck Fairness Act would protect workers by closing loopholes in the Equal Pay Act of 1963.

The Pay Equity for All Act would prohibit employers from asking about salary history before making a job offer. The Fair Pay Act would require employers to provide equal pay for work of equal value (comparable worth)

Tell your member of Congress you want fair pay!
