State Police Offering Free Gun Locks to Granbys, State Residents for the Holidays

State police are offering free gun locks at every troop barracks in the state for the holiday season.

The program is being offered to help keep homes safe, especially when when friends and family are visiting, state police said.

"Remember, small children are curious, they like to snoop around," state police said. "Don't have your firearm be one of the things they find. Keep it locked up out of sight."

The program began on Monday and will last for the holiday period, state police said. Residents can stop by "any time," state police said.

The two closest state police barracks for area residents are:

• Troop C, 1320 Tolland Stage, Tolland
• Troop H, 100R Washington Street, Hartford
