(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy has signed a proclamation declaring Saturday, September 27, 2014 as First Responder Day in Connecticut. The date is part of an annual observance by the state to recognize the contributions of first responders in protecting the security and health of our communities.

“Connecticut’s career and volunteer first responders are a vital part of our state, oftentimes putting their lives in danger to protect others, and we are safer thanks to their service,” Governor Malloy said.

“Their commitment to public safety requires them to make many sacrifices, and we are indebted to their contributions. This annual observance is an opportunity for all citizens to honor, recognize and support our first responders who protect and live in our communities.”

“Connecticut is grateful to our first responders for their service and sacrifice,” said Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman. “These men and women are consummate professionals in tremendously difficult circumstances. Their expertise can lessen trauma experienced by victims, their compassion and demeanor can help families cope with devastation, and their fortitude can ensure a dangerous situation doesn’t turn worse. We offer our deepest gratitude for their efforts, and to the families who enable them to do this work on our behalf.”
