The 'Skyz the Limit' for Riders' Goals at New Equine Facility

Skyz the Limit Performance Horses opened Feb. 1 and offers lessons, training and boarding for all breeds.

Jeremy Mimitz and Dan Drewlow say the “Skyz the Limit” when it comes to helping their customers achieve their goals - and their name reinforces that.

The two horse enthusiasts opened up Skyz the Limit Performance Horses on Feb. 1, offering training and lessons for all ages and levels as well as boarding for all breeds. The business is on the grounds of Horse Central Stable on Wells Road, and lease property from them.

Mimitz said this endeavor is something he has always wanted to do.

“I’ve always been really devoted to horses,” he said. “I always wanted to have my own farm.”

Mimitz grew up in Massachusetts, but came to Granby after college and worked on a farm alongside Drewlow, his partner in the business. Drewlow hails from Minnesota, but moved to the east coast in June and has worked alongside Mimitz ever since.

Drewlow has about nine years of experience in the industry, and he said his speciality is breeding but has also worked on farms that were major show barns. While Drewlow focuses on the managing aspect of the business, Mimitz does the training and the majority of the lessons. Mimitz’s devotion doesn’t end with Skyz the Limit either, as he is also the president of the Granby Horse Council and the 4-H leader for Granby.

In about two weeks, Mimitz and Drewlow will celebrate their new venture and host an open house for the public on April 30 from 10 a.m.-4p.m. Mimitz said there will be demonstrations during the day, and the opportunity for people to familiarize themselves with the program.

So far, Mimitz said it has been a lot more difficult than he thought running a business, especially given that he had to have knee surgery this month, limiting how much he could help out Drewlow.

“Its been very overwhelming especially considering everyones stuck with me and I’ve had surgery,” Mimitz said of his customers. “A lot of the customers have been coming and helping with the stalls.”

But, on the upside, Mimitz said they have been able to double pretty much everything since the start- including horses and lessons. Right now, they have a total of 14 horses on the property but Drewlow said they will gain another three by May 1.

Mimitz said the support from the community has been overwhelming in establishing themselves in town.

“I can’t even tell you how much support the community has given us,” he said. “People have been wonderful.”

Drewlow agreed.

“Its been wonderful,” he said. “We have a great group of customers.”

Mimitz credited Pam and Rick Stevens for opening their doors to Skyz the Limit and offering some of their property to get their business up and running.

What sets Skyz the Limit apart, Mimitz said, is the relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

“The biggest comment I get from [customers] is that I’m relaxed, friendly and it’s an enjoyable atmosphere,” he said. “We try to have a good time, and keep it very safe as well.”

Drewlow said the philosophy of the business is working with their customers to reach their goals.

“The sky’s the limit to get everything done for our customers that we can do,” he said.
