2 Accused Of Attempted Fraud At Greenwich Saks Fifth Avenue: Cops
The alleged incident occurred late Thursday afternoon.

GREENWICH, CT — Two men were arrested by Greenwich police Thursday after they allegedly tried to make buy $1,890 worth of merchandise from the Saks Fifth Avenue store on Greenwich Avenue by fraudulent means, according to authorities.
The incident occurred at just before 5 p.m. after Franklin F. Romero, 25, of Reading, PA, and Francisco A. Diaz-Denoly, 23, of Bronx, NY, approached the counter with the merchandise.
"Diaz-Denoly was suspected of presenting a counterfeit driver's license to a staff member at the store when asked for ID," stated Greenwich Police Lt. John Slusarz.

Two suspects allegedly grew suspicious of the clerk and left the store without making the purchase. Store staff alerted police of the incident and the two men were apprehended by officers as they tried to drive away.
While speaking with Diaz-Denoly, officers found a counterfeit Pennsylvania driver's license under the name "Daniel Cornyn," according to Slusarz, which he had allegedly tried to use at Saks.

Additionally, in the vehicle the two were in, officers found items from the White Plains, NY Bloomingdale's store that Greenwich police said were purchased fraudulently.
Both suspects were charged with identity theft, conspiracy to commit larceny, larceny by possession (for the Bloomingdale's items), and other violations. Diaz-Denoly was additionally charged with criminal impersonation and forgery.
The two were held in lieu of bail $5,000 each and are scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Dec. 20.
