2 Arrested After Check Scam At Greenwich Post Office: Police

The two suspects were arrested after attempting to cash a money order while using fake identification.

GREENWICH, CT — A New Jersey man and a New York woman were arrested on forgery and other charges Thursday afternoon after police said they tried to fraudulently cash a money order at the Greenwich Post Office on Valley Drive.

Jama A. Mohamoud, 27, of Mount Arlington, NJ, and Chynna V. Jones, 26, of Bronx, NY, were arrested at about 4:30 p.m. after they tried to cash a $1,000 money order using a fake drivers license, police said.

Post officer staff alerted police of the fraudulent transaction, and officers arrested Mohamoud, who drove Jones to the post office, in the parking lot, while Jones was arrested inside.

Both were carrying fraudulent drivers licenses, and Mohamoud also had a fake credit card in his possession.

In addition to second-degree forgery, Mohamoud also was charged with interfering with police for initially giving officers a fake name.

Jones was additionally charged with criminal attempt at fourth-degree larceny, third-degree identity theft and interfering with police.

Both were released after posting bond on bail of $2,500 each and are scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Aug. 2.
