2 Juveniles Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Crashes During Pursuit: Greenwich Police

GREENWICH, CT — Two juveniles were arrested early Thursday after a stolen vehicle crashed while fleeing from officers investigating the theft of another vehicle in north Greenwich, police said.

Police have not released the identifying information on the arrestees, who were issued juvenile summonses.

At 12:29 a.m., police responded to the area of a home in north Greenwich after a resident reported seeing several people near vehicles parked in a neighbor's driveway, police said in an announcement Thursday afternoon.

The resident called police after seeing a white Jeep Grand Cherokee leave the driveway.

Responding officers found the stolen Jeep traveling in the area of North Maple Avenue along with a Honda HR-V.

Officers tried to stop the vehicles, but they both continued northbound onto Lake Avenue, police said.

Officers successfully deployed a tire deflation device on the Honda, but the driver continued on flat tires, police said, noting the vehicle left the roadway while trying to negotiate a curve and crashed into a utility pole.

The occupants of the Honda fled the area on foot. Officers established a perimeter and conducted a search of the surrounding area with help from the Greenwich Police Department's drone and K-9 units, police said.

Two juveniles were found and taken into custody without further incident.

One arrestee was charged with engaging police in a pursuit; evading responsibility; theft of a motor vehicle; interfering with an officer; and criminal trover.

The other arrestee was charged with conspiracy to commit theft of a motor vehicle; interfering with an officer; and criminal trover.

Further investigation determined that the Honda was stolen from Bethel. Police also noted they recovered identification associated with a separate theft in Newtown.

"The Greenwich Police Department reminds residents to take simple precautions to help reduce opportunities for vehicle theft," police said. "Residents should lock their vehicles every time they are left unattended, remove keys and key fobs from vehicles, avoid leaving valuables in plain view."
