Do you have a family? If so, please tell us about them.
I'm married to Janet Bollinger Huley, also Greenwich born and raised. We have two children, Laura, 33 who has lived in Japan since 2015 and our son, Scott 31, who lives Stamford.
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
No one in my family works in politics or for any government.
Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective?
I was on the RTM starting in 1998 for 5 terms. I was on the Alarm Appeals Board and it's Chairman, in the mid 1990s. I have been on the Board of Assessment Appeals for 3 years. I am also the Democratic Deputy Registrar of Voters, and have been in this position since 2019.
Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?
I'm seeking to become the Tax Collector to modernize the way we collect taxes in Greenwich
Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it.
The ability to pay their taxes in a convenient and efficient way without the Town of Greenwich or the Tax Payer incurring additional fees. I intend to Modernize the way that the Greenwich Tax Payer pays their taxes to be more in-line with the Myriad of Secure ways that everyone pays all their other bills today.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
My opponent is satisfied with doing things the same old ways, and Greenwich Tax Payers deserve better. As with all the other organizations that I have led or have been a part of, I've striven to modernize, and make more user friendly to the constituents they serve.
If you are challenging an incumbent, in what way has the current officeholder failed the community?
The incumbent tax collector has collected our taxes, but the citizens of Greenwich deserve so much more. We all expect and deserve a more modern, convenient and secure way to pay our taxes than to mail a check or get in your car and drive your check to town hall or pay a service fee to pay on line. There are better ways that our neighboring towns employ.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
The other issues that concern the people that I meet as I campaign around town, after we talk about the Tax Collector's position, are our underfunded schools. I explain that the best way to combat that continuing trend is to vote Row A, to break the log jamb and get our schools the support that they desperately need.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I have Managed two real estate offices in my 35+ years in residential real estate. I have Chaired the Alarms Appeals Board and worked with our Town Law Department to modernize the alarm ordinance. I have held several leadership roles including the Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Round Hill Community Church and for many years I was the President of The Banksville Community House. I still hold positions on both those Boards.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Both my Mom and my Dad used to tell me to try to be friendly and helpful to everyone you meet, it doesn't cost anything and it makes you feel good inside.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
Local Elections are the most important elections in that they have the most direct impact on our daily lives. I ask that you vote for me, both for Board of Assessment Appeals and Tax Collector, but no matter what, get out and vote in every election, our democracy depends on it!
