2026 Greenwich Beach Season To Begin Soon: Here's What To Know

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Department of Health and the Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation announced plans for the start of the 2026 summer beach season, including opening dates for local beaches, island ferries and the Byram Park pool.

According to the town, Greenwich Point Park and Byram Park beaches are scheduled to open May 23 and remain open through Sept. 7.

Ferry service to Island Beach and Great Captain Island is scheduled to begin June 13 and continue through Sept. 13. The pool area at Byram Park is scheduled to open May 22.

Town officials said the Department of Health and Parks and Recreation will continue enforcing an existing policy prohibiting recreational swimming at local tidal beaches after certain rainfall events.

The policy does not apply to the island beaches because officials said those locations do not appear to be affected by rainfall in the same way as mainland beaches.

Closures affecting island beaches will be announced by the Department of Health when necessary. Other beach closures will be triggered by rainfall events.

The town’s Division of Environmental Services will continue collecting and analyzing beach water samples weekly throughout the summer season, according to officials.

Byram Beach will remain closed for one beach day following rainfall events of one-third of an inch or greater. The Department of Public Works is continuing to assist with an investigation into bacteria sources near the beach.

If multiple storms occur, the beach will remain closed for one full day after the rain ends, according to the town.

Beach openings, closures and related announcements will be posted through the Division of Environmental Services Beach Hotline at 203-622-7855 and on the town website.

Swimming closures will also be posted at each beach location by the Department of Parks and Recreation.
