35 New COVID-19 Cases Reported Within Greenwich Public Schools

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich Public Schools reported its highest COVID-19 case increase ever on Tuesday, according to the district's case tracker.

The tracker, which updates twice per week, showed 35 new COVID-19 cases on Dec. 14. The previous high was 33 on April 9, 2021.

So far this December, there have been 87 COVID-19 cases reported among students and staff. For the entire school year, there have been 240 cases to date.

There are 53 current COVID-19 cases affecting every school in the district, except Parkway School and Windrose, according to the tracker.

Of the 53 cases, 36 can be traced to coming from outside activities or family members, and one case is from in-school transmission. Sixteen cases are undetermined.

Forty-seven of the cases are students, three teachers, a service provider, administrator and a non-teaching staff member.

The latest update from GPS comes on the heels of Gov. Ned Lamont saying he's not in favor of implementing a statewide remote learning model, according to Hearst Connecticut.

Lamont made the comments during a media event at Staples High School in Westport on Monday, and cited the success schools have had with staying open and the fact that vaccines are now widely available.

COVID-19 cases among students reportedly have risen to close to 2,000 this month, about four-times the number a month ago.
