Connecticut Power Outages: More Less Than 500 People Without Electricity

Severe weather is moving through the state now and already flooding has been reported and trees toppled too.

UPDATE, 9 a.m. Wednesday: Eversource is reporting only 576 people without power with Waterford reporting 126 and South Windsor, 73. United Illuminating Co. is reporting 51 outages.


At 10 p.m. nearly 8,000 Connecticut residents were without power but by 11:30 p.m. those outages have dropped somewhat. As of 11:30 p.m. Eversource is reporting 2,948 outages and United Illuminating Co. is reporting 3,374 outages.

The worst of the storm is happening now and will continue overnight. Local meteorologists said on social media that some areas are seeing rainfall rates of one inch per hour and Bridgeport saw almost a half inch of rain within 15 minutes, NBC Connecticut reported.

Wind advisories and flash flood warnings are in effect for parts of Connecticut through Wednesday morning.

said as of 9:45 p.m. "Exceptionally heavy rainfall rates with the rain in the Valley now. It's moving northeast toward Hartford." He added that nearly four inches of rain fell in Monroe in just a few hours and New Haven is seeing rainfall rates of two inches per hour.

Here is the storm forecast for southern Connecticut via the National Weather Service:

Tonight: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then scattered showers between 2am and 5am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Low around 62. South wind 13 to 18 mph decreasing to 7 to 12 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Wednesday: A 40 percent chance of showers, mainly after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. South wind around 6 mph becoming west after midnight.


Here is the storm forecast for northern Connecticut via the National Weather Service:

Tonight: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Low around 63. South wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Wednesday: Showers likely, mainly after 5pm. Cloudy, with a high near 67. Light and variable wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Showers likely, mainly before 7pm. Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 48. South wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Thursday: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 62. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
