5 Sacred Heart Greenwich students honored at CT STEM Fair

Five high school juniors received awards for their original science research at the statewide CT SEM Fair

Five Sacred Heart Greenwich juniors were honored for their original science research at the CT STEM Fair, formerly known as the Southern Connecticut Science & Engineering Fair, on Saturday, February 4 at Darien High School.

Each year, Sacred Heart Greenwich’s science students enter their projects in the fair and this year was no exception. The following is a list of the winners:

Sofia Piriz of Stamford, CT won first place for her science project, “The Effect of Age and Gender on Choice Blindness,” in the category of Behavioral Research Proposal.

The team of Lauren Burd of Bronxville, NY and Caroline Dym of Pound Ridge, NY won a second place award for their research proposal, “Evaluating the Bacteria Found in Indoor Play Areas versus Public Restrooms Using DNA Barcoding.”

Julia Herzig of Larchmont, NY and Barbara Jones of Bedford Corners, NY teamed up and won fourth place for their research proposal, “The Effects of Choline on Learning, Memory, and Movement in C. elegans.”

Students from schools across Connecticut were invited to join the fair and present on topics that ranged across the subject areas of health, behavioral, environmental, and physical science.

Sacred Heart Greenwich is an independent, Catholic college preparatory day school for girls from kindergarten through twelfth grade with a coed early childhood education program.
