Tucked in the rear of 150 Mill St. in Byram is the Fabric House—an oasis of fabrics with a selection sure to please the most discerning of interior decorating tastes.
Jane Mercaldi has run the business started by her mother 54 years ago in White Plains, NY, in the cramped 400-square foot space for two years.
Now she plans to take the hundreds of bolts of material and samples, and move them around the corner to 20 Henry St. It is there she will be setting up shop with Elizabeth T. DiMarco Décor, a longtime Greenwich decorative services shop that’s relocating from Glenville.

Mercaldi says that starting today (Friday, June 7) all of her inventory will be marked down 50 percent as part of moving sale. (The sale continues through June 22.)
“It’s going to be exciting. The new space has 2,400 square feet,” which will seem palatial to the shop she’s in now. “It’s so small here I feel like I’m in solitary confinement.” Mercaldi also said, “Being on Henry Street, I’m hoping the location is going to be better. It’s an adventure.”

She added, “I’m excited about working with the DiMarcos.”
The DiMarco shop also has been holding moving sales and is moving from its historic location at Glenville and Riversville Road this weekend.
Mercaldi says she’ll be in her Mill Street digs in July. “I’m out of here June 30. The exact date moving in, I’m not sure because of the Fourth of July.”
But in the meantime, there will be plenty of deals for those looking for material for new drapes, upholstery or that new outfit they’re planning to sew.
