GREENWICH, CT — Steinway & Sons has announced it will be closing its Greenwich piano showroom, the only such showroom in the state of Connecticut, according to an announcement on the company's website.
"Steinway & Sons Greenwich is closing its doors and must liquidate all pianos in its showroom," the announcement reads. "This inventory will be offered at significantly reduced pricing for two days only."
Company spokesperson Anthony Gilroy told Patch via an emailed statement that Steinway's lease was up at 72 Greenwich Ave.
"Any time we are nearing the end of a lease we explore all our options," Gilroy said. "We are opening a new, larger showroom that we feel fits our needs better. The good news is we’ll be staying in the Greenwich area.”
A liquidation sale at the showroom is scheduled for April 13-14. Customers can choose from new, used and rebuilt Steinway & Sons, Boston and Essex pianos, with immediate delivery available. Appointments are required.
Steinway & Sons opened the Greenwich location in September 2018.
"This elegant new showroom will be a very exciting destination for our area’s flourishing music community," said Showroom Manager Sarah Venditti in a news release at the time. "We’re very excited not only to open our doors and showcase our stunning pianos, but also to launch a wide range of programs and services for music educators, pianists, patrons, and institutions in our region."
The company was founded in 1853 by German immigrant Henry Engelhard Steinway in Manhattan, according to the Steinway & Sons website.
