GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Recycling Advisory Board and Greenwich Green & Clean will host a paper shredding event on Saturday, April 18, at the Island Beach parking lot across from the town ferry dock.
The event is scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Residents can bring sensitive documents to be shredded on-site for a fee of $4 per box, with a maximum of four boxes per car. Boxes should be approximately 12 inches by 18 inches by 12 inches in size.
Organizers said acceptable materials include old financial, legal, tax, Social Security and medical documents. Residents are asked to remove all metal and plastic items, such as clips, bindings, covers and binders, before shredding. Documents must be placed in a box or rigid container; bags will not be accepted.
Shredded materials will be recycled.
Volunteers from the Boys & Girls Club will assist by removing boxes from vehicles. Organizers ask participants to ensure boxes are not too heavy to lift.
The event will also include a collection for the Neighbor-to-Neighbor food bank.
Requested donations include canned chicken and tuna, canned vegetables and fruits, peanut butter and jelly, pasta and sauce, soup, rice, beans and cereal.
Toiletries such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, soap and shampoo will also be accepted, including sample sizes. Opened or expired items will not be accepted.
