Construction At Central Middle School Continues As Building Takes Shape

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich Public Schools this week released its May update for the new Central Middle School, and the building continues to progress as the weather begins to warm up.

The new 125,000-square-foot building is being constructed just north of the current school.

The existing school will continue to operate until the new structure is complete and has received a final certificate of occupancy.

If all goes according to plan, the new $112 million CMS could open before the start of the 2026-2027 school year.

Here's work that was completed in April, according to GPS:

• Advanced millwork and finish installation on second-floor classroom pods
• Began first-floor millwork and finishes
• Progressed auditorium finishes, including painting and theatrical equipment installation
• Advanced MEP rough-in and finishes in the gym
• Completed kitchen equipment installation
• Progressed site improvements, including utilities, and initiated hardscaping
• Advanced exterior façade installation

A look ahead at work planned for May:

• Advance hardscape installation across the site
• Progress second-floor classroom pod finishes
• Continue auditorium finishing work

• Progress first-floor flooring and millwork installation
