GREENWICH, CT — Memorial Day is on May 25, and there are several events taking place in Greenwich over the long weekend to mark the holiday and the kickoff to summer.
Here's a rundown of the events that are scheduled throughout town.
The annual ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, at 11 a.m. in the pocket park across from the Greenwich Historical Society. All are welcome to attend.
The Greenwich Town Party will take place rain or shine on May 23 in Roger Sherman Baldwin Park.
This year's event will be headlined by Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, along with John Fogerty, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Elmo. The Town Stage will offer several local bands and performers.
Tickets to the anticipated event are sold out.
The Byram Veterans parade will begin on Sunday, May 24 at 1 p.m., followed by a community block party on Veterans Way courtesy of the Byram Veterans Association. The party will feature live music and food.
The Glenville parade, hosted by the Ninth District Veterans and the Glenville Volunteer Fire Company and scheduled for May 24, will begin at 5 p.m.
The parade will begin on Glenville Street at King Street and will head east. A ceremony will then take place at the Ninth District’s War Dead Memorial on the Glenville Green.
The American Legion Post 29 will hold its annual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 25, at 8 a.m. sharp at the Indian Harbor Yacht Club.
Byram will host a Memorial Day ceremony in Eugene Morlot Memorial Park on May 25 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will take place by the memorial grove of trees that honor Byram veterans who were killed while serving in the armed forces.
The annual Memorial Day parade in Old Greenwich will begin at 10 a.m. on May 25. The route will go down Sound Beach Avenue to a memorial ceremony in Binney Park.
The Sound Beach Community Band will march in the parade and then perform in Binney Park.
The 62nd running of the Jim Fixx Memorial Day races is scheduled for May 25.
The event, one of the oldest in the state, includes a 5K race and kids' run events.
